"Forever
Romping in Greener Pastures" |
|
Such a kind,
proud stallion who passed his temperament to his foals.
Whenever he heard his march and saw his adoring fans, he MARCHED
in to greet his subjects. I could never resist taking
photos and videos of him. And who would ever forget to
bring him carrots which he took so politely.
|
| Vanessa
Carlson always fed him a carrot at night check -- the last time was
Friday night. Saturday, he bred three mares. He colicked
Sunday morning but despite our best efforts, didn't survive the
surgery. |
| Der
Radetzky lives on in our hearts and in his present and future
offspring. His frozen semen will produce foals for many years
to come |
|
Der
Radetzky was the senior stallion at Woodridge
Farm and was 26 years old. |
| Der
Radetzky's famous grandsires Duellant and Radetzky were well known for
producing champions in both dressage and jumping. Der Radetzky has
proven his own talents both as a Grand Prix jumper in Germany and as a
nationally ranked dressage horse in the United States. Continuing this
tradition, Der Radetzky has produced many prize-winning offspring in
Germany in both jumping and dressage, and here in the US his offspring
are competing in eventing and dressage.
In 1994 his
daughter D'Esprit was First Level Champion at the USDF Region 8 finals
and was the first-placed Hanoverian in the USDF All-Breeds Awards at
First Level.
In 1997
his son Dacapo was the second-placed Hanoverian in the USDF All-Breeds
Awards at Training Level. Dacapo finished in first place in the
Junior/Young Rider division with a median score of 71.3%. Der Radetzky
is a 100% gray producer. |
