Kenn Acebal and Lennox Out of
Olympic Selection Trials

By Hallie McEvoy

Kenn Acebal of Wellington, Florida and his talented Westfalen gelding, Lennox, have dropped out of the Olympic Selection Trials. "Lennox has a strained superficial flexor tendon in his left hind leg," explained Kenn. "The vets told me they could treat Lennox to get him through the Trials, but
I decided against doing that. It just would not be fair to the horse after all he has given me. We're going to do the best thing for Lennox, which is to rest him."

Lennox, known affectionately as ‘Le Ox', was trained by Kenn up to the Grand Prix level, then loaned to Robert Dover, Kenn's friend and coach, to show for the U.S. Equestrian Team (USET). Dover and Lennox represented the USET at
the 1998 World Equestrian Games.

After the World Equestrian Games, Kenn and Lennox renewed their partnership. For most of 1999, they trained and stayed at the farm of World Champion Anky Van Grunsven in The Netherlands.

Kenn is disappointed to miss competing in the Olympic Trials, but knows that "everything happens for a reason. Lennox and I have a great future in front of us, and there will be other challenges and competitions ahead. The important thing now is for Lennox to rest and heal. With a bit of luck,
we'll be back in training by June." Kenn is already setting his sights on the National Championships next year, as well as on the 2004 Olympic Games.

Throughout his career, Kenn has displayed excellent sportsmanship and exceptional abilities as a horseman. He is continuing that now, by putting Lennox's welfare ahead of his own hopes and aspirations. Meanwhile, Kenn continues to give lessons and clinics to help other people achieve their
dreams. "Life can be very short and we must enjoy it, and the others that are traveling in it with us," Kenn commented. "Don't let anything come between you and the people you care about."

"I've had a lot of wonderful opportunities and I know I'm very blessed to have Lennox. My sponsors, along with my friends and family, have all stood behind me over the past year. I'm very grateful to everyone for their support."
