Netherlands Dutch Riders Enjoy Australia 8/28 Today the entire dressage team took a visit to the Olympic Village. Anky: ”We don’t stay at the Village as the distance from Horsley Park is too difficult for us every day. The Olympic Village is very impressive to see: gigantically big with everything being central. The entire complex is new, especially built for the Olympic Games. All of the stadiums are in a row. In the afternoon we traveled to Sydney city. We visited many things, among them Sydney Opera House. Afterwards we took a cruise around the harbor on a ferry. After midnight we heard the fabulous news that the Netherlands had taken gold on the European Championships for Young Riders. Coby van Baalen was especially happy as her daughter Marlies had helped the team to victory.” Today it rained a lot in Sydney. The local people are happy, as they hadn’t had rain for five weeks. Anky was riding in between the showers. The surface of the arena’s started to get a little wet, but she has a great choice of 11 arenas to use. “I have started trotting and cantering a bit. Gestion Bonfire is so fit; he is really on the point of exploding. Wednesday we get the official accreditations from SOCOG. Then things are complete.” 8/26 The dressage team are enjoying themselves in Australia. The atmosphere is fantastic. The entire dressage team stays in the same house; 40 minutes from the stables. Anky:” Today we all took our horses for a walk under the saddle in the sunshine. I’ m happy the horses stayed free from illness. The atmosphere is really great. Everyone is super fit. Today we went all together to the fitness center. This was a memorable moment for Arjen and Ellen as it is not a common activity for them. We also went to Regatta, near Penrith. Tomorrow we’ll tour the sights of Sydney. Copyright © Dressage un Ltd. All rights reserved.
