FEI = Grand Prix
Special Bonfire's outstanding performance in the Grand Prix Special has turned up the heat in the fight for the Individual Dressage gold medal in Dressage at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Anky van Grunsven (NED) and Bonfire lead the competition with 153.13. Isabell Werth (GER) is in second place on 151.99, with her teammate Nadine Capellmann a close third on 151.28. Determined not to repeat the mistakes that marred her Grand Prix, van Grunsven rode an elegant and accurate Grand Prix Special. She is pleased that Bonfire, who partnered van Grunsven to a silver medal at Atlanta and is competing at his last international competition, will be remembered as a star. Although Werth, fresh from winning the gold in the Team competition, threw out the challenge early in the day with a superb test, it was not good enough to retain the overall lead. First time Olympian Capellmann, riding Farbenfroh, surprised the crowd with a sensational test to finish in front of teammate Werth in the Grand Prix Special. Her combined scores in the Grand Prix and the Grand Prix Special place her in third spot going into the final. The Individual Dressage medals will be decided Saturday. The Freestyle to Music begins at 11:00. Medals will be presented at 15:15. Copyright © Dressage un Ltd. All rights reserved.
