Paint the Town,
Bucky and Barrett
Tiz's new family
July 25, 2003

Paint the Town & Bucky
Professor Tiz
| Tiz, 22
year old Arabian gelding, has been an only child since we lost Diala.
Tiz had always lived in a barn full of buddies and was lonely.
My search for equine friends for Tiz brought Paint the Town a.k.a.
Paint, 8 year old chestnut appaloosa miniature mare, and her 2 month
old black stallion colt, Bucky (a.k.a. Buckingham or Buckminister or
???). Tiz was thrilled to finally have equine friends. When
Bucky is weaned, Paint will share Tiz's pasture. Paint and Tiz
have matching stars on their foreheads.
Paint's first career
as a broodmare will end when Bucky is weaned. She is already
settling in to her new career, companion for Tiz. It took no
time for her to learn that Tiz always gets carrots for dessert, and
now Paint comes to the stall door to politely request one
"mini" carrot at a time.
Bucky could be a
Walmart greeter. He LOVES everyone which is why photos have been
so difficult -- he's velcroed to me when I'm in the stall or
paddock.
Ralph led Paint and
Amanda led Bucky from the trailer to their new stall. Since
Bucky was only 2 months old, he hadn't been led yet and it took a
professional like Amanda to gently steer him to his new home. Amanda
is now showing their minis in the Youth classes. Recently at the
AMHA Central Champion Show in Tulsa, OK, Amanda and London Fog, Junior
Mare, were Reserve Champions qualifying for the AMHA 2003 National
Show in Ft. Worth, Tx this fall. Congratulations, Amanda and
London!
Realizing that its
better to raise a foal with other foals, I asked the breeder if he had
a foal he could loan. Bucky's older half-brother, Barrett, who
was born in February was being weaned. Barrett and Bucky were
best friends. Ralph decided to just put Barrett in the back seat
of his new club cab pickup for the short trip to my house. |

Barrett, Bay &
White Pinto Miniature Colt
|
| Angel,
Amanda's sister, did a super job of teaching Barrett to lead, to stand, and to pick up
his feet for the farrier. Barrett just learned that there are
mini carrots for dessert and sometimes afternoon snacks. He,
too, politely takes one mini carrot at a time. Barrett is quite
the gentleman. He, too, loves people and attention. So
when Ralph mentioned that Barrett was for sale, Barrett was on loan
about 20 minutes before I wrote the check making Barrett a permanent
member of the family. Welcome home, Barrett! |
