She Wears Her Hair Up

She wears her hair up,
For it is a serious day,
Intense, the floor creaks,
Her thoughts, heavy weight.

She wears her hair up,
No frills or colors bright,
Her soul is well scrubbed,
Eyes opaque, no glimpse of light.

She wears her hair up,
Strides forward true and straight,
Into the hours and minutes,
Gallop is her normal gait.

Late in the quiet of evening,
A minor key ballad background,
She sighs and wishes with longing,
For someone to let her hair down.
