Royalty |
Queen Beatrix of the
Netherlands attended Sunday's show jumping championship final and
the Royal Dutch Stable Department of Den Haag drove a collection
of its royal carriages, drawn only by Friesians, and Gelderlandse
and Groninger carriage horses of the Royal Warmblood Horse Stud
Book including the oldest and most popular of them will surely
attract the most attention: The "Gala Glas Berline",
built in 1836 for the Prince of Oranje. Drawn by six proud Frisian
horses and guided by an honorary escort of six cavalry and police
riders. The "Blue Calèche", built 1875 in Paris. In
Aachen the lightweight, open carriage was drawn by two Frisian
horses. This elegant carriage, with its unobtrusive ornaments on a
dark blue base coat, is especially favoured by the Royal
Family. |
| Farewell
to Nations |
The Farewell to Nations
brought jumpers, dressage riders and drivers to the jumping arena
where a Sold out crowd including standing room of over 45,000
waved farewell to the top competitors in the world. The
Hungarian four-in-hand delighted the crowd with repeated gallops
through the water hazard and their final full speed ahead
exit. The Spanish dressage riders on matching Andalusian
stallions halted the procession with Ignacio Rambla's stallion
posing for photos with one front leg extended as in Spanish
Walk. |
| Perfect
Weather |
The dressage gods
ordered perfect sunshine for the dressage competitions. The
first two days it was even unseasonably warm, not even a jacket
was needed. Saturday's Grand Prix Special had some clouds,
cooler weather and even light rain for a couple of rides.
Liquid sunshine held off until Monday morning. |
