It must be really fun to wake up in the morning, yawn, stretch, and
say, "Gosh, it’s cool to be King!"
This kind of confidence translates into wonderful performance…where
one enters The Zone and just..stays there.
Wow. I think I will say it again. Wow.
Straight. Engaged. Partnership. The music matches the horse and the
horse performs on the beat. The balance is true. The piaffe is even!
Nothing disturbs the eye. The passion is visible. The pirouettes are so
engaged and up through the shoulders! Wow!
All right — an imperfection! Ulla’s head nods — no doubt from
trying to stay supple and yet match the power of Rusty’s energy!
And Rusty swishes his tail!
Maybe — no tail swishes will translate into 90s…

A
Career That Almost Didn't Happen |

At the time
that Rusty came to our stables, seven years ago, I planned not to
compete anymore, but to concentrate on schooling horses. But when
I rode him I immediately knew that this was the horse that could
give me the opportunity. |

1990 the horse was sold to Belarus and later to Germany.
Rotors/Rusty is by Rebuss out of Akra and 3/4 Hanoverian. Ridden
by Ulla Salzgeber Rusty was a member of the winning German
Dressage teams at the 1998 World and 1999 European Championships. |

Team Gold
and Individual Bronze. Remembered for having ice water
in their veins when the CD quit midway in their freestyle.
Judges huddled, live tv impatiently waited, and the pair was told
to exit the arena, bring their backup CD, and continue their ride
AFTER the final competitor. Ulla and Rusty left the arena
with thunderous applause in support by the uninformed crowd but
Ulla burst into tears at the exit gate. Not a tear in sight
when they resumed their test and won their Bronze. |
| World
Cup 2001 |
Winning the
freestyle with 81.24%, Ulla Salzgeber & Rusty
convincingly won both the Grand Prix and Kür to win their first
World Cup Title and won an Audi A4 approximately $38,900.
"Rusty really likes to perform to music. When he hears the
music entering the ring he really goes for it." |

I have
enclosed one of my favourites of Rusty sort of peeking at the
spectators on his way out with a "Did we do okay?" look
on his
face and Ulla about to answer it with a big pat and hug.

Ulla
Salzbeber and Rusty, the Russian Gelding of unknown Russian
parentage, put in a simply gorgeous ride. The extended trot
exploded, the trot half pass covers more ground with more
suspension than Ferro, but the passage was not as together, not as
high as Ferro. The piaffe was a bit low in back. He covered so
much ground with the 2 tempis that he used the entire diagonal (in
comparison, Anky's Bonfire only took 40 meters for their perfectly
centered 1s). Rusty's one tempis on center line between the canter
pirouettes were perfectly straight and again ground covering -
almost not having enough room between the two canter pirouettes.
Seamless, powerful, transition from extended trot to passage.
Their brilliance earned the 1579, 73.44 score.
Ulla and Rusty won team gold and
their first individual bronze. |
