Soers Sunday
Sunday, June 15
Traditionally the
Soers Sunday is the short term beginning of the World Equestrian Festival,
CHIO Aachen. The day of the open door takes place on Sunday before the
official beginning of the CHIO Aachen and offers a multicoloured program to
the guests and their families.

Fireworks of Music and Horsesport
As final event on the Soers Sunday, the unofficial prelude to the World
Equestrian Festival, CHIO Aachen, the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein e.V. (ALRV)
together with the symphony orchestra of the Theatre of Aachen will, for the
first time ever, present fireworks of orchestra music paired with top-class
dressage and further fascinating horse presentations. On Sunday, June 15th,
2003 at 8 p.m., the world's paramount actors from equestrian sports will
enter the Deutsche Bank Dressage Stadium, accompanied by the sounds of
classical music.
A jointly concert in Aachen's Soers, an idea
which did not take long to maturate:
"The Theatre of Aachen has already been reflecting for a fairly long
time about facing new challenges together with partners from the region. A
common project together with the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein has excited
us very much", said Marcus R. Bosch, Executive Music Director of the
City of Aachen. The idea of a live-concert accompanied by horse
presentations in Aachen's Soers had already been born during the very first
talk with the representatives of the ALRV. "Everything else went fairly
quickly after that."
Aside to classical dressage with stars like the two-fold dressage World
Champion and Olympic Champion Nadine Capellmann as well as Olympic Champion
Alexandra Simons-de Ridder who will enthuse the audience, further equestrian
presentations from several disciplines will round off the image.
Frank Kemperman, General Manager of the ALRV, is especially looking forward
to the possible participation of Nadja Zülow, multiple World Champion in
vaulting. "Especially with regard to the FEI World Equestrian Games
Aachen 2006, the World Championships in seven different equestrian
disciplines, including, amongst others, vaulting, it would be a special
pleasure for us to be able to welcome the current World Champion in Aachen's
Soers already by now." First phone calls have been made, and the ALRV
has met a very positive response from the World Champion.
The musical program varies from dance music of Vienna's waltz-family Strauß
over pieces from Peter Tschaikowski's ballet music "The
Nutcracker" to Broadway-music by Leonard Bernstein and the soundtrack
of "Star Wars" by John Williams. Matching with the CHIO-partner
country Hungary, two "Hungarian Dances" by Johannes Brahms will
sound through the stadium. As "star voice" the soprano singer of
the Theatre of Aachen, Lisa Graf, will sing two arias from "Die
Fledermaus" ("The Bat") and "Countess Mariza".
Aside to the planning of the sport and music highlights, the ALRV and the
Theatre of Aachen are especially pleased with the support from three
competent partners.
Michael Mronz, General Manager of the Aachener Reitturnier GmbH:
"Apart from the Aachener Zeitung as media partner and Yorn we are very
happy that we could acquire unicef for the event. For a long time now, we
have been thinking about building up a long-term co-operation with the
United Nations Children's Fund. With this concert we have found a felicitous
framework for that."
Three Euro from each ticket - adults pay 18 Euro, children and juveniles up
to 16 years-old pay 11 Euro - will be donated to the unicef-project:
"Help! Protect the Children of Iraq".
